Overview

Green Silicon Carbide (GSiC) is synthesized in a resistance-type electric furnace from high-purity quartz sand and petroleum coke. Its distinctive green color indicates an SiC purity of 99 % or higher — significantly above black silicon carbide.

With a Mohs hardness of 9.4, Green SiC is one of the hardest commercially available abrasives, second only to diamond and cubic boron nitride. Its extreme hardness, sharp cutting edges, and chemical inertness make it the material of choice for precision lapping, semiconductor wafer slicing, and grinding of cemented carbides and technical ceramics.

YUMO supplies Green SiC in FEPA macro-grit (F12–F220) and micro-powder (F230–F1200) ranges with full PSD certification.

FAQ

What is the difference between green and black silicon carbide?

Green SiC has higher purity (≥ 99 % vs ≥ 98.5 %), greater hardness, and is preferred for precision applications. Black SiC is more cost-effective for general-purpose use.

Can Green SiC be used for blasting?

It can, but it is usually cost-prohibitive for blasting. Black SiC or fused alumina is more economical for blast applications.

Is Green SiC suitable for refractory use?

Yes. Its high thermal conductivity and resistance to chemical attack make it suitable for kiln furniture and SiC-based refractories.

Do you supply micro powders?

Yes. We offer F230 through F1200 micro powders with laser-verified PSD data.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Standard MOQ is 1 MT for macro grits and 500 kg for micro powders.
